Nel 1972 entrò in vigore il secondo Statuto di Autonomia, che costituisce la base per la tutela delle minoranze che vivono in Alto Adige.
Trent'anni fa, nel 1992, con la “quietanza liberatoria” dell’Austria nei confronti dell’Italia si chiuse il contenzioso riguardante l’Alto Adige aperto davanti alle Nazioni Unite.

Abstract: Die Streitbeilegung 1992 in der Angelegenheit Südtirol zwischen Österreich und Italien vor der UNO ist für die europäische Historie von enormer Wichtigkeit. Sie ist der Schlussstrich unter einem Konflikt, der zwei Nachbarstaaten jahrzehntelang entzweit hat. Nach 1918 und der Annexion durch das damalige Königreich Italien verschärften sich die Spannungen im Land von Etsch, Eisack und Rienz unter der faschistischen Unterdrückungspolitik und dem Nationalsozialismus Hitler-Deutschlands. Der Konflikt dauerte bis weit in die 1960er-Jahre und kam einer Vergewaltigung einer kulturellen und sprachlichen Minderheit in einem fremdnationalen Staat gleich. Erst mit dem „Paket“ aus dem Jahr 1969 konnte sich eine halbwegs befriedigende Lösung für die gegenwärtige Autonomie abzeichnen. 1992 wurde der Streit zwischen Österreich und Italien formell beendet. Und trotzdem, ein Vierteljahrhundert später muss man als Minderheit immer auf der Hut sein. Die Entwicklungen in Schottland und Katalonien haben gezeigt, dass es auch Völker in Europa gibt, die den Weg der Unabhängigkeit beschreiten wollen. Wird auch Südtirol diesen Weg einschlagen? Die Zukunft wird es weisen. Dennoch muss man im kleinen Land im Herzen der Alpen alle drei Sprachgruppen in den Prozess einbinden. Der Weg des Dialogs und der Konsensbereitschaft muss über kurz oder lang ein Charakteristikum eines neuen Europas sein. Dieser Sammelband bietet Einblick in die jüngere Geschichte Südtirols und spiegelt die unterschiedlichsten Meinungen zur Streitbeilegung wider. (www.verlagdrkovac.de)
