Abstract: Ezra Pound, T. S. Eliot, and Wyndham Lewis have all, to varying degrees, been the subject of studies that explore their ideology. All too often, however, these studies have not tackled the issue adequately, limiting their analytical approach to fascism or other phenomena such as anti-Semitism. Frequently, they have also sought to exculpate these writers or to normalise their political tendencies in an effort to circumnavigate the dilemma of how to address the paradox of right-wing artists who are both harbingers and opponents of the imagined trajectory of progressive modernity. This interdisciplinary study analyses the connections between literary Modernism and right-wing ideology. Moreover, it is the first academic study to explore the reception of these Modernist authors by today's far right, seeking to understand in what ways they use strategic readings of Modernist texts to legitimise right-wing ideology. By raising fundamental questions about the relationship between aesthetics and politics, this study ultimately challenges its readers to see their cultural practices as political. It wants to make visible and problematize the interdependencies of right-wing ideology and cultural production as well as reception in order to explain the (far) Right as a phenomenon deeply rooted in European history and cultural development. Abstract: Me and Fashion is a constellation of fashion photographs made by Brigitte Niedermair (born 1971) over the past 20 years. These images show how, informed by her parallel creative path as an independent art photographer, she continues to query and utilize her female perspective to expand the conventions and biases of the fashion image system. Niedermair's photographic collaborators and subjects tend to have training as dancers and can transform themselves into the material expression of the body as a language, adopting an "attitude of resistance" toward the camera. Me and Fashion is published for Niedermair's exhibition at the Museo di Palazzo Mocenigo during the 2019 Venice Biennale. Working with acclaimed photography curator Charlotte Cotton, Niedermair responds to the atmosphere of each room of the Palazzo Mocenigo, replacing historic paintings with her fashion and still-life photographs to both amplify and counter the embedded subtexts of gender and identity that permeate these predominantly 17th-century interiors.

Abstract: In the second volume of the series “Diptera Stelviana”, further results are published from the survey of the Diptera (flies and midges) in the South Tyrol part of the Stilfserjoch National Park (Italian Alps). Five Malaise traps were used, which were set up during the vegetative period of 2005 along a transect from the submontane to the alpine altitudinal zones (940 m to 2,135 m above NHN). After the guest foreword and the editor’s foreword on the impact of the “Nagoya Protocol” on biodiversity research, volume 2 continues with a comprehensive historical account of dipterological research in the South Tyrol since 1860. In the first part of this series which was published in 2008 more than 25.000 specimens of Diptera were dealt with. Abstract: Consider these facts. In Italy the right to worship, without discrimination, is enshrined within the constitution. There are 1.35 million Muslims in Italy and yet, officially, only eight mosques in the whole country. One consequence is that the Muslim population have accumulated a huge number of makeshift and temporary places of worship. These are housed in a variety of buildings including lock ups, garages, shops, warehouses and old factories. This shortage of places to worship is particularly acute in north east Italy – where the photographer Nicolò Degiorgis lives – home to many anti-Islamic campaigns headed by the right wing party Lega Nord. The dull images of the many and diverse buildings that house the makeshift mosques are printed on folded pages. You open up the gatefold to reveal the scenes inside the mosques, shot in full colour. The size of the gatherings varies, from large crowds who sometimes pray outside to a small room full to bursting, or to intimate groups of two or three Muslims. Degiorgis provides a fascinating glimpse of hidden world and leaves the conclusions about this project entirely in our own hands. (Verlagstext)
