Abstract: Zwei Erzählungen die die Auswirkungen einer Kindheit ohne Väter als übergeordnetes Thema haben. In der titelgebenden Erzählung werden in Gruppentherapiesitzungen die Probleme dieser ohne Väter aufgewachsenen Kinder herausgearbeitet. In der Therapiegruppe sind aber auch einige Teilnehmer einer späteren Generation, die ganz andere Probleme mit ihren Eltern haben. In der zweiten Erzählung wird dem Leben eines Mannes nachgespürt, der als Kind im Krieg verloren ging und zu klein war, um Angaben über seine Herkunft machen zu können, aber noch Glück hatte, weil er eine fürsorgliche Ziehmutter fand. Ein Leben lang versucht er, seinem Ursprung auf die Spur zu kommen, wobei er in einem sehr problematischen Verhältnis zur leiblichen Tochter seiner Ziehmutter lebt. Diese Stiefschwester weigert sich bei seinem Tod irgend etwas mit seinem Nachlass zu tun zu haben und verkauft seine Wohnung mit allem Inhalt (auch ein Hund gehört dazu) an eine junge wohnungssuchende Frau, die auf Grund der vorgefundenen Papiere versucht, sein leben aufzudröseln. Abstract: Serafina, ein junges Mädchen aus der Toscana, kommt zum Studium nach München. Ihr Vater. ein erfolgreichen deutscher Architekt, hat seiner Sehnsucht nach Italien nachgegeben und lebt als Aussteiger mit seiner schwedischen Frau in Roselle, wo Serafina geboren wurde und aufwuchs. Ihr Großvater hat ihr eine große Wohnung in München vererbt, und natürlich wird sie für die Zeit ihres Studiums, in ihre ererbte Wohnung einziehen. Jedoch in dieser Wohnung lebt eine geheimnisvolle alte Frau Elsa mit einem hysterischen Kater, wieso und warum ist nicht ganz klar und Serafina wird auch nicht gerade freundlich empfangen. Allmählich lernt Serafina die Hintergründe kennen: die alte Frau ist die Tochter der ursprünglichen, jüdischen Eigentümer der Wohnung. Im Zuge der Arisierung zu Zeit der Nazi-Herrschaft, kam die Wohnung in den Besitz des Großvaters. Den Hergang erfährt Serafina hauptsächlich von der ersten Frau ihre Vaters und deren Sohn, ihren Halbbruder. Serafina, die von den dramatischen Geschehnissen in der Mitte des 20. Jahrhunderts nur eine nebulöse Vorstellung hat, wird plötzlich hautnah mit diesen Vorgängen konfrontiert und sie begreift allmählich, dass auch über das unbeschwerte Leben ihrer Generation, die Vergangenheit ihre Schatten wirft.
